Description
Dead Sea Scrolls Bookmark
In 1947, Bedouin shepherds searching for a lost goat entered an undisturbed cave in Qumran, near the Dead Sea. Then Bedouin discovered pottery jars filled whit ancient scrolls. Carbon dating placed these scrolls in the time from about the third century BCE to 68 AD. This discovery from the late Second Temple Period sparked an intense interest in further excavations which eventually yielded thousands of scroll fragments, and unearthed the ruins of the ancient people who hid the scrolls.
